Sinopsis

This story tells about the period when Sappho, the ancient poet from Lesbos lives in Mytilene, Greece, which is stirred by political scandlas as more applicants compete for the throne of the tyrant. Due to this situation, she has to flee her home and live in Siculy for a while. The ambotious dictators want to win both the support of the influential poet: Alcalos and Sappho who is never so popular with the youth but has financial difficulties, in exchange she is offered a significant financial support for her School for Girls. The machinations are started off by the arrival of a drunken homeless to the city, who lives in a barrel, and who is being sued for corrupting the youth os Mytilene. The case is used by all to strenghthen their own position. At the same time there is a talent contest among the girls schools fo the city and Sappho is visited by Hermes, the god of thieves and poets who probes her: if her students loose the contest, she looses everything: home, poems, students and daughter. If she wins she can choose what to give up from the samen issues. The jury is made up of politicians of course so Sappho and her apprentices need to consider seriously what the real values are and what it means to be a poet.
